In the shallow waters around Lillgrund, between Sweden and Denmark, plans are underway to build Örestads Vindkraftpark. Once fully completed, the 48 wind power turbines will produce 300 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to around 15 per cent of the city of Malmö’s entire electricity requirements.

The environmental benefits of such a wind farm are enormous. For example, fossil carbon dioxide emissions will drop by some 300,000 tons compared with producing the same amount of electricity from an oil-fired power plant.
